About Green Urea

Highly Efficiency Fertilizer

Green Urea fertilizer is an invention created by Professor Dr Noorhana Yahya from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. Nitrogenous fertilizer, mainly urea is vital to enable high gains of productivity in agriculture and other agro-products. In Malaysia, agriculture sector contributes about 8.7 % of total Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the consumption of nitrogen (N) fertilizer is increasing with time. For paddy yield, (15-20) kg N/ha/year is needed and for oil palm (50-160) kg N/ha/year is required depending on maturity of oil palm. However, the downfall of urea lies on its high soluble and volatile properties.

This has been a great challenge to the environment causing greenhouse gases volatilization, leaching and groundwater contamination. On top of that, the production of urea which utilizes ammonia and carbon dioxide gasses as feedstock known as Haber-Bosch process is an energy-intense industry as it requires high temperature and pressure for its production. These scenarios have caused preoccupation globally and the current need of fertilizer due to arising human population, less arable land, global warming and green revolution clearly illustrates the need of a sustainable solution. Prof Noorhana Yahya, looked at this problem from the different dimension and made earnest effort to come closer to a sustainable solution as we are referring now as Green Urea.

This clean and green method for a sustainable future might change the landscape of future chemical processes. By using Nanotechnology, plants can now increase ability to absorb more nutrients and micronutrients. Thus, improve plant quality and growth.

In order to address this, a multidisciplinary collaboration with industry partners and entrepreneur development agencies namely Cambridge Investment Group Ltd, PETRONAS Chemical Group, Perbadanan Kemajuan Ekonomi Negeri Islam Perak and academia from locally and internationally such as Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Istanbul Technical University, Turkey and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Nigeria are currently ongoing at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. A successful upscaling and commercialization strategy of Green Urea will elevate the product’s development in the local fertilizer industry and contribute towards the development of sustainable agriculture to be in line with Malaysia's New Socio-Economic Model.

Green Urea

OUR MAIN PRODUCT

Green Urea is urea coating fertilizer. It is a soil fertilizer-enhancer based on hybrid technology (Nano-wave and green). It used the organic based chemical as a green binder that increases photosynthesis promotes and enhance plant growth.
It could also stimulate larger nutrient uptake as it enhances the internal energy of the plants to grow and defend themselves against fungals infection. It can be used in both aerobic respiration environment.
